INTRODUCTION

The area in and around Markethill has many fine examples of early cottages and farmhouses. There are a number of “big houses” which, although owned privately, have been opened to the public on European Heritage Open Days. There are, also, many listed buildings, –buildings that are protected because of their special built-heritage significance. Another major feature of the area is, of course, Gosford Castle.
