THE TOWNLAND OF BOLTON
The townland of Bolton is in the parish of Loughgilly in Armagh County. It

CONDITION: substantial remains
A small mound standing 2.5m high. The top is almost level, 12.5m N-S x 10m E-W. The sides are generally very steep, but in places have been eroded by cattle & badgers to reveal a composition of clay & small stones. Around the S half is a ditch c.3.5m wide & 3.8m deep below the top of the mound. A low bank can be traces beyond the ditch on SW, c.1.5m above the base of the ditch & 0.5m above the outer ground level. Recent road widening has encroached on the E side. This may be a motte or a raised rath.
