THE TOWNLAND OF CORNAGRALLY
The townland of Cornagrally is in the parish of Loughgilly in Armagh County.
It is labelled number 12 on the map.
The 1826 Schools Commission report describes the school in the townland:
“Cornegrally – A pay school under the care of Thomas McCormly,
of the Roman Catholic denomination, who was in receipt of 1.5d per week. The
school was held in a “waste barn” in which 24 scholars were educated.”

CONDITION: some remains
An oval enclosure around the church which defined by a scarp face which drops down to the once wet ground to E. The scarp varies in height, being highest at E & blending into the ground at N. It is revetted in places but this is interrupted by trees & collapse. From NE-N a wide bank is visible, possibly the remnant of a perimeter bank. It varies from 2.4-4m wide & has been partially cut away by gravestones set around the perimeter. The present church & graveyard date to c.1811. See SM7 for further details.
