THE TOWNLAND OF DRUMSAVAGE
The townland of Drumsavage is in the parish of Kildarton in Armagh County.
It is labelled number 9 on the map.
Paterson (Armachiana, Vol. 16) notes:
Drumsavage. ‘Savage’s hill or long ridge’. Derives from a family or clan.

Drum (Druim) [meaning ‘ridge’] is one of the most common names and figures
as a prefix to about 2,400 places besides an equal number in which it is combined. (p.21)

On the crest of a small ridge, a little N of the summit. The N & E sides of the site have been removed, so the interior merges with the field and only a faint scarp remains. The S & W sides are preserved by a semi-circular field boundary which suggests an original diameter of 47m NW-SE. Around the surviving perimeter there is a low bank, 3m wide x 0.75m high on the S side, but much less substantial elsewhere. Beyond the bank is a ditch, 2.1m wide & 1.2m deep which has been recently recut.
