THE TOWNLAND OF FEDERNAGH

The townland of Federnagh is in the parish of Ballymore in Armagh County. It
is labelled number 29 on the map.

The Environment and Heritage Service Sites and Monuments Record (2002) notes the following in this townland:

    Rath of the Early Christian Period.

    Townland: FEDERNAGH
    CONDITION: traces only
    This site has been badly damaged by the construction of a farm steading on the S side, & reduced to a slight scarp c. O.7m high by cultivation around the NW. A short arc of the enclosure bank survives on SE, 6m wide & 1.5m high above the interior. Beyound this is an external ditch also c.6m wide & 091.2m deep. The ground level within the monument is lower than that outside, having been scooped out to create a level interior. The site is approx.30m in diam. NE-SW. See SM7 file for further details.
