THE TOWNLAND OF MAVEMACULLEN (BALLYMORE)
The townland of Mavemacullen is in the parish of Ballymore in Armagh County.
It is labelled number 35 on the map. (There is another Mavemacullen in the parish
of Loughgilly.)
The Environment and Heritage Service Agency Sites and Monuments Record (2002)
notes the following in this townland:
Rath from the Early Christian period

“A roughly circular platform, raised 0.75-1 m above the surrounding ground
level, with traces of cultivation ridges. A large earthen bank, c.5m wide
encloses the site and stands 1.5-2m above the interior & 2-2.5m above the
exterior. The bank has been breeched on the NE & SW and although both gaps
appear modern, the wider one, on the NE may mark an original entrance. The
site is c.40m in diam. Earlier field reports record a ditch 3.5m wide x 0.9m
deep, but this has been levelled. See SM7 file for further details. BIBLIOGRAPHY:
